Ready or Not
Remember when you were a child playing “Hide and Seek” when after counting to a hundred with your eyes closed and hiding behind a tree, you would say “Here I come, ready or not!” That’s the idea Jesus is presenting in Matthew 25, our text for the sermon mini-series, “Ready or Not.”
Always the consummate story teller, Jesus shares 3 parables or stories with a purpose. The people of His day were very familiar with the settings and the happenings of each story- a wedding celebration, laborers carrying out their master wishes when he is on a journey, and the basis on which judgment takes place. We will being asked to respond to each with the question, “Ready or Not?”
The Parable of the Ten Virgins Matthew 25:1-131 At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take along any extra oil. 4 But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps..."
