This year’s Lenten Small Groups will be reading two short books:
The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence (Fwd. by Henri J.M. Nouwen). Brother Lawrence was a man of humble beginnings who discovered the greatest secret of living in the Kingdom of God here on earth---the art of "practicing the presence of God in one single act that does not end." He often stated that it is God who paints Himself in the depths of our soul. We must merely open our hearts to receive Him and His loving presence, wherever we are, be it in a bustling kitchen or on our knees in prayer. A classic in Christian literature, this reissue of the 1977 translation includes 4 "Conversations with Brother Lawrence," 16 "Letters from Brother Lawrence ...," "Spiritual Maxims," and a foreword by Henri Nouwen. Also included is an in-depth introduction by John Delaney that examines what is known about Lawrence's life, how the book came to be, and its ongoing relevance throughout the ages.
Life of the Beloved by Henri J.M. Nouwen. This spiritual classic began as a simple request from one friend to another for a book explaining the spiritual life in terms that he and his friends could understand, avoiding theology and technical language. Nouwen's answer has become one of the most cherished books of our era. "All I want to say to you is, 'You are the Beloved.'" Includes reflection guide.
Sign ups are on February 12th and 19th or use our Online Registration Form, groups begin the week of February 26th prior to Ash Wednesday. Books are available through www.Christianbook.com or you may link directly to the purchase page:
