When Jesus Comes:
Promise...…Jeremiah reminds us that a ‘Branch’ will spring up – promise – despite the oppressions the people of God carry – God will keep God’s promise. Luke tells us of another promise that points to the coming Messiah – our redemption! Now and at the last day!
Friends...…Part of the great Christmas gift is the reminder that there are ‘messengers’ that God sends into our lives to love us, encourage us, prepare us, warn us. The story of John the Baptist is a remarkable affirmation of maybe Jesus’ best friend.
Salvation...Isaiah sings a song of salvation. We need not be afraid. To be baptized by the Spirit puts us in place not of weakness but of incredible supernatural advantage.
Security...…Micah promises that we will live ‘secure’ because of the greatness of our Lord. Mary finds miraculous security and support as she spends time with Elizabeth. How can anyone prepare for a life ‘Christ-filled’ and not wonder about one’s worthiness. Mary finds security and also joy in the home of the priest and his wife.
Blessing...Every year Hannah and Elkanah would come to see their son. Hannah brought a gift for her son. The couple received a blessing upon their return. The Christ brings to us multiple gifts and we are invited to receive the blessing and pass it along. Jesus in the temple as a young boy brought His blessing – causing amazement at His understanding.
